Susie Stonefield runs Unfold Art from Chico, California. She’s a transformational creativity coach and expressive arts facilitator who works online and in person at her studio, The Haven. This fall her work grew to include the Create Brave Collective, an online membership for women in their third act. Susie first worked with us years ago through the Squarespace Circle, and we reconnected in the summer of 2026.

The situation

Susie has designed her own website since the day she started her business, and she thinks of it as part of her art. She’d just moved it to Squarespace 7.1, where layouts kept shifting between phone and desktop, right as she was getting ready to open the Create Brave Collective.

We proposed a custom build first and mocked up a homepage to show what it could be. Susie chose to stay on Squarespace, where she could keep designing pages herself, so that became the brief: a clean new 7.1 site she could run on her own, live before the membership opened.

A fresh start on 7.1

We started over on a new Squarespace site instead of patching the old one. Susie set the direction with her own homepage design and a brand kit of her colors and fonts, and we built the rest of the site around it.

That covered every page a visitor uses: About, coaching, in-person sessions at The Haven, retreats, resources, and the membership. Her blog came across with all 153 posts. We kept the addresses for her free workbooks and podcast gifts, since she mentions those on podcasts and people still type them in, and added redirects for the pages that changed names.

Custom blocks she can edit

Squarespace’s own blocks only go so far, so the parts that make the site feel like Susie’s are custom code: polaroid photos with washi tape, retreat schedules and pricing tiers, testimonial cards, and a row of paint dabs in the footer beside her queer-owned badge. Code blocks usually lock a client out, so we added a plugin that lets Susie edit the words in each one the way she edits a standard block.

We also saved the sections she reuses most, like the ways to work with her, so she can drop them onto a new page. The Create Brave Collective page runs as a landing page, with the navigation and footer turned off so the only next step is joining.

The outcome

The new site went live in August 2026, with the Create Brave Collective page close behind. The founding cohort is underway now, and registration for the next one opens in March 2027.

The site now carries her next in-person retreat, the Rekindle Retreat at The Haven in January. Susie keeps designing it herself and checks in with us when she wants something custom, like a new polaroid.
